4 Aug 2009 - Exclusive: RAIN to Awaken The Dragon?

El Mayimbe here with a scoop!

About two years ago this month, the trades reported that Warner Independent Pictures has set "The Shield" exec producer Kurt Sutter to write and make his feature directing debut on "Awaken the Dragon."

A noir-style remake of "Enter the Dragon," the 1973 martial arts classic that made Bruce Lee a global star, Sutter said he's writing "Awaken the Dragon" as a contemporized drama about a lone FBI agent who pursues a rogue Shaolin monk into the bloody world of underground martial arts fight clubs.

Sutter will look to discover a fight star in the role of the monk and cast an established American actor to play the FBI agent.

Well, guess what? I think they found their fight star.

You know who Warner Bros. is gung ho on playing the Monk?

According to my confirmed sources…

Korean megastar RAIN!

Now I know what got Megan Fox going gaga over him. Apparently WB is also going gaga over RAIN after what he did for them in ultra bloody and badass "Ninja Assassin."

I just saw "NINJA ASSASSIN" at Comic Con and both Kellvin and I thought RAIN would have been an awesome Storm Shadow in "G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra." If Ninja Assassin is any indication, great things are in store for RAIN because his presence is undeniable.

Original film starred Lee as a martial artist who's drafted by law enforcement to participate in a martial arts tournament and infiltrate a drug smuggling operation run from the host's heavily guarded island.

"I'm a huge noir fan, and this plot lends itself to the film I want to make," Sutter said. "I wanted to set it in these underground fight clubs where the action is really raw and expose the brutality of Shaolin Kung fu. This will be more 'Raging Bull' than 'Crouching Tiger' in its viciousness."

Interesting.

Stay tuned as more develops.

6 Aug 2009 - Rain is offered to star in a remake of Bruce Lee's 'Enter the Dragon'

According to America's special movie web site 'latinoreview.com', Rain was alleged to be offered to star in a noir-style remake of 'Enter the Dragon', the 1973 martial arts classic that made Bruce Lee a global star.

The site reported, "The new remake movie story says that a lone FBI agent who pursues a rogue Shaolin monk into the bloody world of underground martial arts fight clubs.

And the movie concerned will look to discover a fight star in the role of the monk, Korea's star Rain might be who they are looking for.

In particular, 'The Shield' exec producer 'Kurt Sutter' was full of praise for Rain's acting in the movie after he saw Ninja Assassin at Comic-con."

For this, Rain's agent J.Tune entertainment was careful to make their position clear on the 6th, "What Rain was offered to play in the remake movie is true, but the project for his appearance on the screen has not taken concrete shape yet."

If Rain appears on the remake movie, he'll put his name on the hollywood major movies' list, and will get abreast of other internationally famous actors and actresses.

Meanwhile, Rain's first leading hollywood movie Ninja Assassin will be shown to the public on November 25th for the first time.

6 Aug 2009 - Rain to Take Over for Bruce Lee in ‘Dragon’?

South Korean pop singer-turned-actor Rain may be taking over for Bruce Lee.  Warner Bros is considering him for Awaken the Dragon, a film noir remake of 1973’s Enter the Dragon that made Lee one of the most famous martial artists in movies.

According to the inside scoop at LatinoReview, Kurt Sutter (the executive producer of “The Shield”) is making his directorial debut on the movie for WB.  The plot follows a lone FBI agent who pursues a rogue Shaolin monk into the bloody world of underground martial arts fight clubs.  Rain is a possible option for the monk and an established American actor will play the agent, says “El Mayimbe” in his article.

The studio must be extremely impressed with the work Rain did in Ninja Assassin.  We’ve seen videos of him training for the martial arts stunts in the Wachowski brothers-produced movie and it looks sick.  Early reactions out of a Comic-Con screening were favorable and said it was “extremely bloody.”

5 Aug 2009 - Is Rain The New Bruce Lee?

Because the whole "Speed Racer as a vehicle to stardom" thing didn't work out, Korean megastar Rain is still best known in the U.S. for his strange rivalry with Stephen Colbert. But he's still trying! He'll be in the upcoming, Wachowski-produced Ninja Assassin, and according to Latino Review, he's also in the running to became the modern day Bruce Lee.

In a planned contemporary remake of the Bruce Lee classic Enter the Dragon-- the new one is titled Awaken the Dragon-- Rain would apparently take on Lee's role of the rogue Shaolin monk tracked by an FBI agent through the world of underground fight clubs. Producer Kurt Sutter would find an established American star to play the agent, but Rain would be the real breakout, presumably following in Lee's footsteps.

Is America ready for Rain? I feel like he's been pegged as the next big thing for years now, and it's finally time for him to go ahead and become an icon already. Kick some ass in the underground, and finally Stephen Colbert will be told.

Latino Review has caught word that Warner Bros. Pictures is considering Korean megastar RAIN (Ninja Assassin) for the lead role in writer/director Kurt Sutter’s Awaken the Dragon, which is a noir-style remake of Enter the Dragon, the 1973 martial arts classic that launched Bruce Lee to stardom.

Awaken the Dragon is a contemporized drama about a lone FBI agent who pursues a rogue Shaolin monk into the bloody world of underground martial arts fight clubs.

The original film starred Lee as a martial artist who is drafted by law enforcement to participate in a martial arts tournament and infiltrate a drug smuggling operation run from the host’s heavily guarded island.

No production date has been set.

Nein!!!!

Rolling Eyes

7 Aug 2009 - Awaken the Dragon: Rain als Bösewicht im Remake von Enter the Dragon?
Lose Neuauflage des Martial-Arts-Klassikers mit Bruce Lee

RainLatino Review berichtet, dass Warner Bros. Rain (Ninja Assassin) für Kurt Sutters Awaken the Dragon verpflichten möchte.

8 Aug 2009 - Comments on Rain within Hollywood staffs and Warner Bros. personnel

It's been long since I had a glance on this movie, but I guess it's finally being released after so long.

The actions and graphics have long been finished with and since there haven’t been any complaints on additional work to my graphic team, there won't be much differences made.

Frankly I don't like violent movies. Not to mention horror films also. But I like action and martial arts and since it stars Rain, being a Korean myself, I took a look at it.

Of course I haven't seen everything since not everything is handed to us, but to get to the bottom of the line, Rain was excellent.

Within the Warner Bros. I work for, people think that Rain has a higher potential and value as an action actor than Jet Li (He's not more talented than Jet Li in martial arts, but the majority think that he looks better on screen and has higher potential than any Chinese actors. His comments within the Hollywood action executives is extremely positive).

Of course, this movie alone will not grant him such a high status.

It's because this movie is too much for the mania class, which most people agree with. But if everything goes well, and if he asserts more effort, he could become the next Bruce Lee to Americans and youths. (His visual exceeds most other Asian action actors.)

14 Aug 2009 - Rain to star in Enter The Dragon remake

Even before his latest Hollywood flick graces cinemas worldwide, rumour has it Rain (Jung Ji-hoon) has snagged a role in the remake of Enter The Dragon. Our boy has all his projects lined up, hasn't he?

Perhaps inspired instead of remake would be a better term as the new movie will be a noir take on the 1973 kungfu classic. And besides, I can't imagine ANYONE remaking a movie that was entirely Bruce Lee.

The new film entitled Awaken The Dragon tells the story of a lone FBI agent who is led into the dark, bloody world of underground martial arts and fight clubs as he pursues a rogue Shaolin monk. Kurt Sutter, the film's writer and director, explains, "I wanted to set it in these underground fight clubs where the action is really raw and expose the brutality of Shaolin kung fu. This will be more Raging Bull than Crouching Tiger in its viciousness."

At the moment, it is too early to tell which role Rain has been set to play. We will be sure to look out for further updates.

If this news is true, Awaken The Dragon will be Kurt Sutter's directorial debut and Rain's third Hollywood film.

LVRN hofft immer noch auf ein Wunder: Rain bitte nehme diese Rolle nicht an! Bitte dirigiere deine Karriere nicht ausschließlich als Schauspieler in Hollywood .

13 Nov 2009 - Excllusive: Rain confirms He's Still Considering Enter The Dragon Remake

A few months ago, just after some audiences got their first look at Ninja Assassin at Comic Con, there were reports that the movies star Rain had been picked to headline a remake of Enter the Dragon, the seminal Bruce Lee martial arts movie. With Ninja Assassin coming out in just a few weeks, theres still been no confirmation that Rain will in fact play the role but we can guarantee you hes considered it.

Below see a very brief snippet from my interview with him, in which he confirms that hes discussed the film with the studio (Warner Bros., the same people distributing Ninja Assassin), but in his words, I havent decided yet. Now whether that means that the studio isnt 100% sure they want him, or that hes not certain he wants to do it, I have no idea. My guess is theyre all waiting to see the response to Ninja Assassin before they make any promises. Anyway, check out his dodging the question below, and well keep you posted if theres any news one way or another.
