Singer Kim Tae-wu, a close friend of singer Rain, has disclosed the everyday personality of the world renowned superstar.
On the KBS 2TV talk show "Win Win" on Tuesday, Kim was featured guest Rain's "secret guest."
Rain was telling MC Kim Seung-wu that he's strict on himself but generous to others. Kim then asked if he often buy meals for others. Rain said "Yes" but Kim came out onstage at that moment, saying, "I raise objection."
The truth unraveled. Kim, who even skipped greetings, went on to say, "In fact, Rain is wealthier than PD Park Jin-young and Park is always generous to his juniors. He urged Rain to follow suit."
Rain admitted that he is used to people older than him buying him meals. He revealed that Kim never bought him a single meal since the years when he was a member of the band G.O.D.
The MCs then sided with Rain, saying that Kim has nothing to boast about, but the tables turned immediately. Kim explained that he joined the military just after his first solo album failed and his monthly salary was W87,000 at the time and so he really didn't have the money.
Kim said that he tried to curry favor with Rain, calling him "older bro," but Rain in the meantime did not talk to him as he would to a senior (Rain is a year younger than Kim).
Rain defended himself, "I speak comfortably even to a person senior by 15 years. I just follow what others do." The mutual attacks continued.
During the talk show, Rain also talked about how he was acutely depressed when preparing for his Hollywood debut in the U.S. He said he thought of extreme ways out, such as dying in a plane crash. He expressed hidden pain and struggles which built up his world star status.

Originally, I think I am a very strong will guy. I don’t know such depressive feeling will turn into a huge attack. Finally, on the 8 months of filming period, I kept thinking “That’s it! That’s it! Then hang on and kept working on it.
One day, the movie finally done. I feel spiritually empty at once, then finished a bottle of soju which was given by director.
Rain: I really feel proud of myself! It’s really remarkable to me even though I am not sure if I’ll succeed.

Bin mal ganz schnell Part 2 überflogen und anscheinend haben die Männer Sorgen, ihre jüngere Schwestern oder überhaupt Mädels Rain vorzustellen hahahaha, weil er so ein unwiderstehlichen Charme hat. Aber die sollten sich keine Sorgen machen da, a) Rain total schüchtern ist und b) ein Gentleman ist.

It’s about Rain feeling lonely and entertaining thoughts about death. The 28 year old spilled the beans about his depression on April 13 while filming KBS2TV’s Win Win variety show.
“I was so depressed and lonely that I had an extreme thought. I was flying one day and I wished the plane crashed. At least people would remember me as someone who was trying his best,” Rain confessed.
However, something stopped the singer/actor/ entrepreneur from ending his life – marriage. “I just couldn’t die before getting married!
“I always thought I was a strong person, but the depression that came over me at that time was just too much,” he revealed.
And when exactly did this happen?
It was when the Love Song singer was filming his US debut flick Ninja Assassin. While extremely happy and excited about the project initially, Rain eventually felt the pressure and loneliness while working in the United States.
“When I was cast for Ninja Assassin, I thought: ‘I’m finally becoming a star, I’m becoming Brad Pitt!’. I got so excited. I thought the cast and crew were too good for a first timer like me. I thought my day has finally come…and they even offered me a really nice house to live in.”
However, Rain decided to stick to the way he was used to. So he stayed in a humble house and practiced discipline. He was his own worst critic. “I put a photo of Bruce Lee on my fridge. I only ate lemon, cabbage, apples and chicken breasts. I did push-ups every time before shooting. The “battle” kept going on even at home after work,” Rain recalled.
The straw that broke the camel’s back was Yoo Jae-suk singing a carol on TV. It was during the Christmas holidays when lonely Rain tuned into Infinite Challenge. “I was watching Infinite Challenge and there was Yoo Jae-suk singing a carol. I found myself weeping. I thought to myself: ‘I’m supposed to be there too…’”
Rain’s Depression Story ends on a happy note – thank God. The Korean superstar completed filming Ninja Assassin and eventually got out of depression. “When shooting was finally over, the director gave me a bottle of soju. I finished it on the spot, and I also swore in Korean. They wouldn’t have understood it. I was really proud of myself. Really.”
