Top Korean entertainer Rain and idol groups 2AM and Kara will be performing at the Asia Song Festival at Seoul Olympic Stadium on Oct. 23, the Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange said Friday.
They will be joining Korea’s leading female singer BoA and stars from another six countries in Asia, including Japanese girl group AKB48 and Thai singer FILM. AKB48 consists of 48 female singers and they have their own theater in Akihabara in Tokyo, where they perform once every weekday. FILM participated in the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics representing Thailand.

Other participants include Chinese singer Jane Zhang and Malaysian singer-songwriter Michael Wong. Zhang is known to be capable of reaching highest register of the human voice, while Wong won over 30 awards in Asia for his breakthrough album “Fairy Tale” in 2005.
Started in 2004, the Asia Song Festival has been aiming to create a “common cultural bond” by establishing a site of cultural exchange and “extend Asia’s creative potential.” The event is co-hosted by the Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange and the city of Seoul, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This year, 14 artists from six Asian countries are participating.
Kim Young-hoon, president of the Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange, said this year’s event was especially meaningful as Seoul will host the G20 summit in November.
“We’d like to create a cultural bond of ‘one Asia’ and ultimately strengthen the competitive power of the global music market,” he said.
Admission is free of charge and tickets can be downloaded from the event’s website. During the event UNICEF will hold a collection for children in Pakistan suffering after the recent flood disaster.

| Quote: | 21 Sep 2010 - Artists for the Asia Song Festival Revealed
Korea Foundation for International Culture have announced the first set of artists who will be partaking in this year’s Asia Song Festival on October 23rd at the Seoul Olympic Stadium.
Top solo artists, Rain and BoA, and idol groups, 2AM and KARA, will grace the event and will be joining the six artists from other countries. These include Japanese girl group AKB48, Thailand’s FILM, Chinese singer Jane Zhang, and singer-songwriter Michael Wong from Malaysia.
The representatives from other countries are no small-time singers, mind you. AKB48, perhaps Japan’s nation girl group, is a theatre group consisting of 48 members who have their very own theatre in Akihabara, Tokyo and perform at the venue once a day on weekdays. FILM were the Thai representatives for the opening of the Beijing Olympics. Jane Zhang is known for being able to hit the highest human register of the human voice. Michael Wong has already won 30 awards all over Asia for his album Fairy Tale released in 2005.
Co-hosted by Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange and the city of Seoul, as well as supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Asia Song Festival started in 2004 and has aimed to create a “common cultural bond” by giving a venue for cultural exchange and “extend Asia’s creative potential.” For this year, 14 artists from six Asian countries are expected to attend the event.
“We’d like to create a cultural bond of ‘one Asia’ and ultimately strengthen the competitive power of the global music market,” Korean Foundation for International Culture Exchange President Kim YoungHoon said. He further expressed that this year will be extra-special since Seoul will be hosting the G20 summit in November.
Aside from promoting Asian culture in totality, UNICEF will also be in the event to ask for help from the attendees through a collection for the Pakistan children who are suffering from the recent flood disaster.
The event is free and tickets can be downloaded at their official website.
Now this is one cultural event everyone wants to go to, right? In the meantime, stay updated with KpopLive as we share more news from this event!
